Custom Decks

A custom deck gives you usable outdoor living space — a place to grill, entertain, relax, or just sit outside without standing in the dirt. Unlike a generic builder-grade deck, a custom build is designed around your yard's layout, elevation, and how you actually plan to use the space.

Homeowners usually start thinking about a deck when they realize their backyard isn't set up for the way they want to live. Maybe you need a flat surface off the back door, a multi-level space for a sloped yard, or a pool deck that ties everything together. Whatever the layout, the goal is the same: more usable space that looks good and holds up.

In Utah, deck materials matter. Freeze-thaw, UV, and dry air beat up wood fast. We build custom decks across Sandy and the surrounding Salt Lake and Utah counties, and we help you choose the right material — composite, PVC, or treated lumber — based on your budget, your look, and how much maintenance you want to deal with (ideally none).

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the Common questions we get About Decks

How long does a custom deck take to build?
Most decks take 1 to 3 weeks from the start of construction, depending on size, material, and complexity. Permitted multi-level builds take longer. We give you a realistic timeline at quote and stick to it.
Do I need a permit for a deck in Utah?
In most cases, yes, especially for decks attached to the house or above 30 inches off the ground. We pull permits for you wherever they're required, so you don't have to deal with the city or county.
Composite or wood, which is better in Utah?
For most homeowners, composite (Trex, TimberTech, or similar) is the better long-term call. It handles Utah's freeze-thaw, dry air, and UV without splintering, warping, or fading. Wood is cheaper upfront but needs staining and sealing every couple years to hold up. We help you pick based on budget and how much maintenance you actually want to deal with (ideally none).
Do you build multi-level decks or sloped decks?
Yes. Multi-level builds and hillside decks are some of our favorite projects, they turn unusable backyard slopes into real outdoor living space. We handle the engineering, footings, and framing to make it safe and code-compliant.
How do I maintain a composite deck?
Almost nothing. Sweep it off and rinse it with a hose a couple times a year. No staining, sealing, or sanding. That's the whole point of composite over wood.
How long will my deck last?
A properly built composite deck lasts 25 to 50 years with almost no maintenance. PVC similar. Treated wood with regular maintenance lasts 15 to 25 years. We back every install with a lifetime materials warranty plus 2-year installation coverage.
